Welcome

The residential program operated by KHI Services, Inc. serves youth, between the ages of 14 and 18, youth with a desire to change their behaviors (the ones that got them into trouble). The youth's parents must also be willing to dedicate a portion of their time to assist in the changes that are needed in order for the youth to turn their lives around.

Dedicated staff work with each youth to develop the skills necessary to be successful when they return to their homes, or move on to their next living situation. Most graduates of our program return to live in their family homes, but some are ready to move on to independent, or semi-independent living situations. Those who do not complete the program may find that skills learned will be remembered later in life, when they are better prepared to address the issues that brought them to us in the first place.

The program is designed as a 6-9 month intensive treatment program. Some youth may stay longer if the treatment team believes a few extra weeks will best serve the youth’s opportunity for success. Youth typically do not stay beyond 12 months.

Families have the opportunity to participate in many activities with their sons. Once a week the families meet in a multi-family group to discuss issues and to learn from the discussion topics presented by one of the therapists. Families also meet weekly with their assigned therapist and their child to discuss specific issues involving the youth and his family.

The program is therapeutically intense with daily Positive Peer Culture and/or EQUIP meetings, along with Aggression Replacement Training groups. Other counselling groups also take place during the week, in addition to the homework, recreation and life skills training programs.

The program is licensed by the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and funded as small Group Home Program by the Interagency Rates Committee, but it is not like a typical group home. The program is managed by Certified Residential Child Care Program Administrator.
